Man seriously injured in fall in Cornwall

by Watson Woodhouse

A man who was coasteering with a group has fallen into the sea in Cornwall. Coasteering is a sport in which daring participants combine cliff climbing with diving into the sea.

The man fell an estimated 40ft into the sea off the coast of Cornwall, near Newquay, when he was out climbing with a group. An RNAS Culdrose helicopter was used by Falmouth Coastguards to rescue the man. He was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, but is thought to have suffered spinal injuries, which could put him at risk of paralysis.
