Teenager dies after tragic accident at work

by Watson Woodhouse

A teenager from Slough has tragically died following an accident at work in Windsor.

Nineteen-year-old Jake Herring was working as a trainee design engineer for Grundfos Control Solutions, when he was fatally injured in an accident at the Fair Acres Industrial Estate in Dedworth Road on 30 March 2009.

The former student of Burnham Upper School was taken to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Herring had been employed by the firm, which makes panels, since October of last year and had shown promise in his field.

Marketing manager for Grundfos Control Solutions, Linda Dingley, said: “We are extremely devastated by what has happened. He was a lovely young man, who was quite shy and always very pleasant. He had made a lot of friends within the company and we had very high hopes for him. He worked with around 15 people and it was very much like a family. The site has been closed since Monday as a mark of respect and to allow his colleagues to get through their thoughts together.”

The company will re-open on Monday 6 April and will be offering counselling to any member of staff affected by Mr Herring’s tragic death.

An investigation has been launched by Thames Valley Police together with the Health and Safety Executive.

The circumstances surrounding the tragic accident have not yet been made public but a post mortem to determine the cause of death will be carried out this week.
