by Watson Woodhouse

A woman has been badly injured after a surviving a 40-foot fall from a block of flats. West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene in Whitheath, where it appeared the woman had fallen from flats.

The woman, in her 30s, sustained spinal injuries and may have fractured her ankle when she landed on scaffolding around the building about 20-feet up. A spokesperson for the ambulance service said “Miraculously, the woman landed on large sheets of polystyrene, which undoubtedly helped to reduce the injuries she suffered,” (Lancashire Evening Post, 2009).
