Victim gets Compensated for Broken Jaw

by Watson Woodhouse

A man from Kent convicted of causing grievous bodily harm has been ordered to pay £4,000 to his victim.

Stuart Draper, aged 20, of Wickenden Road, Sevenoaks attacked Darren Waitson a young student at the town’s railway station in 2003. He was caught punching and kicking his victim on CCTV at the station.

Draper pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Maidstone Crown Court. The Court was told how Mr Waitson’s jaw was broken in two places in the unprovoked attack, probably caused by a single kick from Draper. He was taken to hospital where he had titanium plates fixed inside his jaw and stitches to cuts inside his mouth.

Judge Andrew Patience QC ordered Draper to serve 240 hours community service and to pay Mr Waitson £4,000 damages.
