by Watson Woodhouse

A patient who fell down an escalator and fractured his skull is now pursuing a personal injury compensation claim against the hospital where the accident occurred.

Len Conway, who is 84 years of age, was attending an appointment at an osteoarthritis clinic and was carrying 28 nutritional drinks that he had been prescribed. Mr Conway was walking down the corridor when he lost his footing and fell 20 feet.

Mr Conway sustained a broken cheekbone and he also needed stitches in his ear, hands, face, legs and underneath his tongue.

Mr Conway’s daughter, Carole, who has advised her father to make the personal injury compensation claim against the hospital, has commented on her fathers injuries and said: “I have never seen a mess like it in my life. His skull was fractured and he had lines down his face where he had fallen down 17 metal rises. His ear was hanging off and he had broken his dentures.”

She has also stated that the since her father’s accident, Mr Conway has required full time medical care, as some days he is unable to get out of his bed.

The Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust headquarters, has said that the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out investigations and an internal inquiry is currently taking place.
