After completing my A-levels, the natural path for me felt like the solicitor apprenticeship. After a lot of hard work, I obtained the grades to pursue this path.
In September 2023, I started my solicitor degree apprenticeship. I am currently based in the civil litigation department which includes various practice areas including inquests, personal injury, medical negligence, claims against public authority and much more. I have a particular interest in inquests, and this is what I aim to focus on. I will also be continuing one day per week in the housing department where I will be focusing on training to become a court duty representative. This would mean that I would be responsible for representing clients in their court hearings for possession of their property.
The first year of my apprenticeship was spent working within our housing department. I began by giving initial advice to clients on matters including homelessness, possession of the property, harassment, and disrepair. As I gained more experience, I accumulated my own caseload of clients for which I would liaise with local authorities in order to obtain accommodation for those who were facing homelessness. I found this work very rewarding. During my time in the housing department, I also attended multiple court hearings for clients who were facing possession proceedings on their property.
As I progress throughout my apprenticeship, I would like to gain experience in a variety of different areas of law and aim to pursue seats in areas such as family law.
I can not wait to see where this programme takes me in the future.
