Darlington town centre will be visited this month by the Alzheimer’s Society’s Roadshow, where visitors will be able to find out more about dementia. The mobile information unit will be travelling across the UK, dropping into Darlington on April 17.
Volunteers and staff from the Alzheimer’s Society will be at the stall at Joseph Pease Place between 10am and 4pm to answer any questions people may have about the disease, or any worries about experiencing memory loss or other signs and symptoms.
The Alzheimer’s Society hopes to reach hundreds of thousands of people across the UK on its tour. The roadshow will offer free information and leaflets, and aims to promote awareness of the disease to encourage early diagnosis. There will be a space for visitors who wish to have a private chat about their concerns with the volunteers.
You may have discovered you are suffering from dementia, or you may be caring for a friend or relative who is and wish to find out about the local support groups.
Staff at the roadshow will be able to tell you about the groups that meet in the Darlington area. The charity AgeUK host a Dementia Cafe, for example, on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month between 10am and noon.
People who are suffering with dementia or caring for someone who is can meet and share information about the disease, their experiences and their advice. The group meets at Cafe Refresh at the AgeUK building in Darlington.
There will also be information stands and events in Darlington Town Centre throughout Dementia Awareness Week, which is from May 18 to 22.
