Man trapped in a conveyor belt

by Macks Solicitors

Recently a 45-year old man was seriously injured at work when he became trapped in a conveyor belt. The accident happened at an Imerys clay drying plant in Par. The man needed immediate medical attention and was taken by ambulance to Tresliske Hospital in Truro. A Health and Safety Executive is now working alongside police to establish what happened. Another incident where a young man became trapped in a conveyor belt proved to be fatal. The 15-year old was pronounced dead at the scene, he was only on his third day at work. At Macks Solicitors we have qualified personal injury solicitors who have experience in dealing with tragic consequences following death through an accident at work .

Work accidents vary in their nature; they do not always end in a fatality. We as solicitors at Macks have considerable expertise in the handling of all types of work accident claims, from a slip or trip to accidents involving heavy vehicles and machinery.

Your employer has a legal responsibility to provide you with a safe working environment. This includes ensuring you have adequate materials and equipment, a safe system of work, competent colleagues and proper training and supervision. If an accident has happened due to your employer’s negligence then you may have a claim for compensation.

After a work related accident it is essential that you inform your employer and make sure your accident is reported in the accident book as soon as possible. Your employer has a duty to report your accident to the Incident Contact Centre of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) if the accident is serious. They must report the following:

  • Death
  • Major Injuries (for example, a broken arm or ribs)
  • Dangerous incidents (for example, the collapse of scaffolding, people overcome by gas)
  • Any other injury that stops an employee from doing their normal work for more than three days
  • Disease

If you do seek legal advice from a specialist solicitor and your employer has been found to be negligent; your claim for compensation will be greatly assisted if the accident has been reported.
